Why I Write

A few years ago, I decided to write my auto-biography. Why? one might think, I am not a celebrity or someone who has achieved a major accomplishment.  The reason I wrote it is both for me to make sense of my life and  to share with the world how a person with autism sees the world.  There are a lot of myths about autism that are perpetuated by society that are profoundly untrue, that we lack empathy, that we have no emotions but I can assure you and I hope this will be evident in my book that I feel emotions just as strongly as any person. As I look back on how crazy my education was (details will be in the book) I found that I really needed to write out my story  to contextualize my thoughts. In a way it was therapy for me to unload my thoughts  and emotional baggage that I had been carrying for years. The most important thing for me is that future generations of autistic children and their parents don't have to endure the at-times living hell that I have been through. My Dad wanted to contribute the parental perspective to the book and we are now putting the finishing touches on the manuscript. Hopefully in the new year I will finally be able to share my story with the world.
